Springing into Bloom Furzey February Fun! Now the sun is shining and the weather is warming up, little shoots of greenery start to poke their heads through the soil and buds are beginning to swell, at Furzey Gardens we are excited to share with you what we have in store this Spring! Head Gardener Pete White and a team of volunteers have been working tirelessly to help transform the lake at Furzey Gardens ready for another twelve months of welcoming local families, weekend visitors and charity supporters through our garden gates for countryside exploration. Following surface desilting with large JCB's, the introduction of ‘beach areas’ over the next few weeks will allow visitors to head right down to the water’s edge and the construction of a jetty will provide guests with a new perspective of the woodland gardens for 2019. Improvements to the play area have continued over the winter and younger visitors can experience an additional level on the climbing structure, and also for those intrepid climbers two designated climbing trees have been introduced. After a little winter break, our Tea Rooms and Gift Shop will be re-opening on the 16th February. Open every day throughout the February half-term, then Fri-Sun until April, visitors can enjoy hot snacks (including jacket potatoes, soup and paninis), sandwiches, cakes and refreshments. A range of gifts are on sale, including beautiful wooden and ceramic gifts crafted in the Minstead Trust Training Workshops. Visitors can always find a bargain amongst the plants on sale, all of which have been brought on in the Furzey Nursery. The Tea Rooms, Gardens and Nursery all provide training opportunities for people with learning disabilities to develop workplace skills and experience. What's in the Calendar? For families wanting to fill the school holidays with fun activities, our volunteers will be entertaining your little ones with decorating fairy or castle doors to take home afterwards! Our popular monthly Furzey Toddle will be returning on 4th April, where volunteers will run pre-school events such as hunts around the garden, telling mystical stories about the fairy inhabitants in the grounds or perhaps leaf collections for art and crafts collages! Rain or shine, the Furzey Toddle will take place so make sure you pack some wellies! On 23-24th March, a Local Residents Weekend invites those with a SO43 postcode to come and enjoy Furzey Gardens free of charge, to meet the team and find out about our plans for the year ahead. Our Spring bulbs should still be putting on a display and if the weather continues to be settled we hope to see some early flowering Rhododendrons.
