On Friday 23rd June, we held one of our annual fundraising events - Wine, Cheese and Trees at Furzey Gardens. The evening was a perfect opportunity to enjoy the tranquility of the Gardens with gentle harp music drifting out from the terrace of the Gallery Coffee Shop.

As our guests arrived they were invited to sample the wine and enjoy the various types of cheese that were on offer.  Fiona, a local personal poet added something a little different to the evening, and guests enjoyed hearing her unique and original repertoire of poetry.

The event was the climax to two weeks of events for the 2017 New Forest Arts Festival, which this year had a tree theme to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Charter of the Forest. It was, therefore, the perfect opportunity to launch our "Sponsor a Tree" appeal.

The money raised from sponsoring a tree at Furzey Gardens will help keep the gardens looking beautiful and support a programme of continued tree planting, whilst also supporting the work of Minstead Trust. You can find out more about sponsoring a tree here.

During the evening our Head Gardener, Pete White, was on hand to provide guided tree walks around the gardens Visiting specimens such as the Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia Glyptostroboides) and the Tulip Tree (Liriodendron tulipifera) Pete provided information on the origins of the trees and their introduction to the gardens.  Not only did our guests enjoy Pete's walk and talk, but one of our resident cats, Lily, came along too.

At the end of the evening, a winning raffle ticket was drawn and the lucky winner (shown below) walked away with a hamper packed full of goodies, kindly provided by Southern Cooperative.

We'd like to thank everyone who attended the evening, bought raffle tickets and sponsored trees on the night. We'd also like to thank Helen from Waitrose in Hythe, The Southern Cooperative, Fiona, personal poet, the harpist, Laura, and volunteers who made the evening a success. Over £1,000 was raised, which will now go towards supporting the continued work of Minstead Trust.

You can find details of how to sponsor a tree here. Or look out for information at your next visit to the gardens.
