Location: Minstead Lodge (New Forest) – with some travel to other sites

Job Type: Full Time (37.50hrs per week)

Salary: £19,402.50 – £20,572.50 per annum

Minstead Trust, a leading learning disabilities charity based in the heart of the beautiful New Forest, is offering the opportunity for a Day Service Instructor to join its Team.

The Trust is over thirty years old and has grown from humble beginnings to become an organisation of over 100 people delivering support to adults with wide-ranging care needs across three counties.

About the role:

Your role will be to plan and deliver outcomes-based activities for groups of adults with learning disabilities, enabling them to develop their skills and achieve their full potential for living independent lives as full citizens. You will give person-centred support, guidance, encouragement and training across a range of goals in health, well-being, life skills or work-based skills as appropriate and ensure that the personal, health and social care needs are met for the people we support. We are looking for someone with the flexibility to offer a range of activities across the Day Service relating to but not limited to Horticulture, Animal Care, Woodwork, Ceramics, Art and Textiles.

Job Description:

  • To plan, deliver and develop the training, activities, care and support to the people we support according to their outcomes-based Development Plans.
  • To develop social enterprise elements of the sessions
  • Maintenance and upkeep of the studios and equipment.
  • Provide direction to volunteers and support workers assisting in activity delivery.
  • Interact and communicate with individuals in a way that promotes dignity and respect.
  • Support individuals with everyday tasks including personal care if needed.
  • Maintain records for the people we support and complete reports as required.
  • Work both as part of a team and also lone work with the people we support.
  • To transport the people we support to other sites via minibus when required.
  • Be able to cover and work in other areas of the Day Service which might include occasional Saturday working.

About you:

We are seeking people who are: responsible, motivated, honest, approachable, good communicators and are committed to providing equal opportunities and quality support to vulnerable adults.  You will have a proven background and knowledge/understanding of supporting people with a range of learning disabilities including experience of autism, complex needs and behaviours that may challenge. You should also be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of person centred services and have a range of computer skills.

All staff working for, or on behalf of Minstead Trust, understand their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding adults at risk and know who to escalate concerns to within Minstead Trust.
