An exciting opportunity has arisen to join us with working within our friendly and dedicated Day Opportunities service located in Southsea, Portsmouth.

Support Worker – Monday to Friday – 37.5 hours per week – Southsea, Portsmouth.

Salary – £20,475 FTE (£10.50 per hour) Rising to £21,225 (£10.90 per hour) subject to skills assessment after 6 months.

As a Support Worker based within our Portsmouth Day Opportunities team, you will work with individuals with learning disabilities helping to engage them in a wide range of sessions inspiring fun and creativity whilst encouraging independence and leading and allowing individuals to live happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.

The role:

You will be guiding the people we support to enable them to participate according to their abilities in various tasks.

This will involve:

  • Supporting individuals to take part in a range of timetabled sessions
  • Liaising with session leaders to plan and organise sessions, resources and transport
  • Assisting individuals with their personal, social and healthcare needs whilst maintaining accurate records
  • Supporting individuals to meet their goals and outcomes in health, wellbeing and independence
  • Working as part of a team as well as lone working within the community as needed
  • Support individuals with everyday tasks as required.

What are we looking for?

  • Previous experience of working in a social care setting or having led activities for people with learning disabilities
  • The ability to work calmly and professionally whether alone or, as part of our friendly team!
  • Sensitivity to the needs of others and the ability to work safely
  • The essential capability to build a rapport with colleagues, volunteers and the families and carers of the people we support
  • Level 2 NVQ in Health and Social Care is desirable but training will be provided
  • A full UK driving licence is preferred but not essential.
  • Aspirations to develop skills at support worker level and beyond!
  • You must be a car driver with access to your own vehicle with willingness/ability to drive a mini-bus. This is an essential requirement.
