Getting my dream job: David’s story

David J police story

David achieves his lifetime dream with Minstead Trust.

Securing your dream job is special for most of us, but for someone with a learning disability it is a stunning achievement.

David is one of the people that Minstead Trust supports in one of our supported living houses.

Having moved to Minstead Trust in 2004, David always wanted to work with the police. Over time he has improved his life skills and has gained significant independence. He now lives on his own and requires only a basic level of support throughout the week to help with menu planning, shopping and cooking.

Through the hard work of David’s support worker, David is now also working alongside Police Officers at a local Police Station to wash the cars. It is a huge achievement.

At Minstead Trust’s recent AGM, staff, students and supporters of the charity came together to celebrate achievements by David and other service-users

Speaking at the AGM, Madeline Durie, CEO of Minstead Trust said:

‘These seemingly small achievements are often big milestones for the people that we support. We are incredibly proud of all the progress that our students and service users make and our thanks go to the staff who work so hard to make these things possible. Above all, we are very grateful to our wider community of supporters, who give their time and money to make these achievements possible.’
