Last year I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. At the time of diagnosis I couldn’t’ walk further than 250m without the need to sit down for a rest and my hands and feet were swollen. I was lucky enough to go on a drug trial which has made an enormous difference (RA is different from osteoarthritis in that it is an autoimmune disease) and in January I decided to stop feeling sorry for myself and start to run….

To motivate me, I foolishly decided to sign up for a 10km run around Kew Gardens. I grew up in Kew and the idea of being able to run there seemed a good idea at the time. The fear of failure having signed up has been a great motivator and although I hated it - from not being able to run 300m without stopping, I have been training three times a week since January, and am now ready to take on that challenge and am hoping to do it in under 70 mins.

So now I need your support. I am raising money for Minstead Trust the brilliant charity I work for which supports people with learning disabilities, autism and other needs to lead more independent and meaningful lives. We have a number of projects at the moment that need your support including community drop ins and some capital expenditure to furnish supported living houses. more information can be found on our website or talk to me if you’re interested!

So, that's it. Several stone lighter, certainly much fitter and absolutely terrified for this Saturday!

thank you for your support
