Hand Crafted Refectory Table

This unique hand crafted table has been made by students supported by a volunteer and the staff at Minstead trust wood work shop. It is constructed from olive ash timber that has been air seasoned for approximately 16 to 18 years at the project itself.

The simple design was chosen to compliment the highly figured grain and the waney edge (bark) and show it off to the best effect. The pieced legs are of a natural shape to accentuate the simple nature of the design. It has been constructed to work as a multi functioning table so its use can be decided by its lucky owner. It can be used as a dining table, it sits four with ease and can accommodate six. It can be used as an office/computer desk, a side table or even as suggested once; an altar.

The Mortice and Tenon joints used to assemble the table legs, feet and top have been not been hidden and are in fact an integral part of the design. They have been wedged with contrasting timber to accentuate the Tenon’s. There is a similar coloured strengthening strip in the ends of the table top.
