Graham: Minstead Trust Trustee & Furzey Garden Volunteer

Graham has been a Trustee for almost six years now but he also volunteers in Furzey Gardens, which is where his involvement in Minstead Trust began.

Initially volunteering as a gardener, he has since volunteered in Furzey Tea Rooms and is now part of the Welcome Team, greeting visitors as they arrive.

Graham says, ‘Being a Welcome Host gives me a wonderful opportunity to talk to our visitors. I take great pleasure in sharing the plants of interest to be discovered throughout the gardens or seeing our younger visitors excited about the hunt for fairy doors.  I also enjoy chatting about the Trust as a whole and the work that it does to support those with a learning disability.’

Away from the gardens and in his role as a Trustee, Graham also enjoys the challenge of helping to steer the Trust by overseeing the strategy of the organisation and providing governance. Working alongside a committed team of volunteers, the Board of Trustees exists to ensure that the charity continues to provide the services and quality of support required to ensure that those people who receive it can continue to achieve their potential.

‘It is wonderful to see the different skills and experience each fellow Trustee can bring to the table and it continues to be a hugely interesting and rewarding role. I would certainly urge anyone who might be interested in getting involved as a Trustee to get in touch!’
