Fairytale storyboards

  • 1 - Cinderella - AJR Art | Supported by NFU Mutual

My passion is painting, having designed murals & various commissions through my life, I now concentrate on painting the Elementals who I’ve known from a small child, their loving energies & messages are now shown within my paintings, stories & of course the fae/gnome houses I make with whatever nature leaves around us, within the woodlands & along the coastline, where I feel so blessed to live.

Walk with the Elementals, hear their messages, feel their energies, we need to work together to preserve our beautiful Planet & the amazing Universe we live within.

  • 2 - The Snow Queen - Cheryl Kirsten | Supported by Snows Toyota

Cheryl Kirsten – Remember the Roses

The Snow Queen is a wonderful tale about persistent loyalty to a friend who has made terrible choices and ends up travelling down a frightening path that completely transforms their personality. The bravery and endurance Gerda shows in searching for Kai and breaking the spell of someone far more powerful than her, was very inspiring to me and immediately it was the fairy tale I most wanted to illustrate.

I am a hobby artist and try my hand at all sorts of media, mostly digital, and enjoyed this opportunity to work with acrylic paints again.

  • 3 - Three Little Pigs - Laura Guy - LLG Designs | Supported by New Forest Fencing

I am a Hampshire based illustrator and artist.
Born and raised near Newcastle, I have always loved drawing. I moved to Hampshire after finishing my degree in illustration and design.
Over the years I have undertaken many challenging and interesting commissions. The majority of my work these days is personalised illustrations and pet portraits.

With a passion for drawing animals, it had to be an animal themed fairytale. So here’s my take on The Three Little Pigs.

  • 5 - Puss in Boots - Ethan, Noadswood School student | Working with Noadswood School

I took my inspiration from the fairytale Puss in Boots. I wanted to create a striking composition of Puss in Boots holding a sword. I used orange and red to show the fiery and trickster personality of the character Puss in Boots.

I really wanted my design to be interactive. I added two cats at the bottom part of the board so children can pop their heads through the hole and become a fairytale character.

I also layered up my paint to create texture for the fur to allow visitors to touch this as well.

    Working with: Noadswood School

We are a comprehensive secondary school full of around 1000 fabulous 11-16 year old students, situated in a pleasant village, a short distance from the New Forest and the Waterside, on a large, green site.

At Noadswood, we cultivate the wellbeing of all, and an ethos of kindness and mutual care. This is combined with a resolute fostering of a Growth Mindset, equipping students to learn tenacity and understand that we all make mistakes that we will grow from.

  • Noadwood School - extra designs

The following designs were submitted by talented students of Noadwood school.

Although we could only choose one design, we wanted to display the diversity of designs that were submitted.

  • 6 - Little Isla Riding Hood - Rachel Barnett | Supported by Beaumont Water Heaters

When my granddaughter was a tiny baby , my husband used to tell her the story of little Isla Riding hood and the big bad wolf, so when I entered this competition I had this in mind and it made me smile.

I have five children and four grandchildren. Isla, Merlin, Axel ,Zachy a big dog Coda and a tortoise Shelly.
I can’t wait to bring them to Furzey Gardens to show them their picture and see their little faces light up.

  • 7 - The Emperor's New Clothes - Rachel Seymour | Sponsored by Honey Legal

Rachel Seymour – The Emperor’s New Clothes
I have been creating things since I was a child and spent many years designing and creating scenery for a local group. I wanted to bring the pompousness of the emperor, and the ridiculousness of the situation into this piece. I hope I’ve managed to capture the many reactions of the crowd – from horrified to highly amused!

Kindly sponsored by Christopher Bevis of Honey Legal

If anything might stop your children inheriting from you, would you want to know about it? To find out more, see our website or text “Video Intro” to my number. Have a magical day, and don’t be an emperor!

  • 8 - Thumbelina - Jill O'Callaghan | Supported by Weddings at Furzey Gardens

I have never painted anything this big, or used acrylics (watercolour is my hobby), so I was a bit scared to start, but it wasn’t as scary, as the things tiny, Thumbelina endured.

Through all her hardships, she remained sweet, kind, she even saved the life of a poorly bird.
The swallow she saved, was to rescue her in return.
I have put the main creatures from the story, in the painting, and others just for fun.

    ‘Thumbelina dance, Thumbelina sing
    Oh Thumbelina, what’s the difference
    If you’re small?
When your heart is full of love
    You’re 9ft tall!’

  • 9 - Rapunzel - Francesca Gioia Loubser | Supported by The Real Jam & Chutney Company

    Francesca Gioia Loubser – Rapunzel

My inspiration for Rapunzel derives from the common expression ‘seize the day’. In a lot of our traditional fairy-tales, they just sit around; singing and most probably waiting to be saved. This is the last thing I want to portray!

I hope as an artist my work can demonstrate to adults and children alike, that they can do anything they put their minds to.

  • 10 - The Ugly Duckling - Charles Beal | Sponsored by New Forest District Council - Arts and Culture Team

Charles Beal – The Ugly Duckling

I’m a 12 year old autistic and home educated artist from the New Forest. I’ve been drawing as long as I can remember!

I chose The Ugly Duckling because as an autistic person I can also feel left out and different from others sometimes, but once you get to know me, I’m not an Ugly Duckling at all, I’m a beautiful Swan.

I chose to add rats because like disabled people, they are often misunderstood and treated as less when they are actually very intelligent, loving and cool animals.

A hare said to a tortoise ‘My my you are slow!’ The tortoise replied ‘Though I walk but a tortoise’s pace I am content and could run you in a race!’

  • O | Wee Creeping Beasties! - Sue Badcrumble

I’m a textile artist who loves to create quirky pieces from discarded remnants, fabric waste & rescued vintage sewing-box notions.
There’s a tale to be told in every scrap of the patchworks that I stitch together. And my love for tiny but surprisingly beautiful invertebrates that creep, flutter and pounce amongst us is deep, stemming from involvement in ecological research on the protection of these vital but vulnerable creatures.

You don’t have to travel far, far away to find enchanted lands – they are all around us if you stop and look carefully!

  • U | Flutterland - Hayley Kim Jones
I am a Wiltshire artist, I have exhibited across the South-West since I was a teen.
I’m very inspired by the natural world and have always had a fascination with flowers and butterflies which formed my inspiration for my ‘Flutterland’ design.
This piece reflects a peaceful moment sitting amongst the wildflowers watching nature going about its day.
I like to call my painting style ‘Exaggeration of the real’ as I paint with exaggerated brushstrokes, colour palette and shape to form scenes of nature.

  • P | - Bea Bielanska
  • O | An Enchanted Place - Suzy Brooks

Having grown up in an artistic environment I always knew I wanted to go into one of the creative arts. I studied fashion to degree level, this included both observational and life drawing, two of my favourite things to do. I then went on to work within the fashion industry.
Now I’m painting more and more including painting murals for a local school. Observed animals and book characters are often the subject.

Within my letter O an Enchanted Place I wanted to show the dark decaying path on one side with the path of light and opportunity on the other.

  • A | Fireflies by Night - Sarah Howden

I have a degree in 3D Art and Design and I have tried many different styles and mediums over the years.
This is the first time I’ve used acrylics on a scale like this. I really wanted to try to bring my design to life and decided to add lights to make the fireflies magical. I combined two designs to complete this, adding the enchanted mushrooms. I have loved making these, to show my son Zach, that you can do anything you put your mind to!

  • T | Red Riding Hood - Katherine Pullen

I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pen and have always had a passion for anything creative. I love exploring different mediums and styles but enjoy working in acrylics, pencil and pen the most.

Red Riding Hood is a story my children enjoy and this drew me to pick this theme. I’ve included local wildlife and wanted to bring out key recognisable elements of the story alongside the main character of the wolf.

I’ve loved being part of such a special project and hope visitors enjoy seeing the whole collection and discussing their own favourite fairy tales.

  • I | A Moment in Time - Sarah Howden

I’ve always loved creating! I have a degree in 3D Art and Design and just had to incorporate 3D elements into my idea. I really wanted to add a kinetic element to my design to bring it to life.
In Cinderella the clock strikes 12 and the magic spell is broken, but she still finds her prince.
This is the first design I’ve created in such a large scale, it had it’s challenges, but I’ve really enjoyed trying something different.
