Charitable donation will keep people with learning disabilities warm in winter and cool in summer

The Minstead Trust team in Portsmouth recently received a charitable donation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of Hampshire and Isle of Wight. The donation of £1618 will be used by the charity to replace a broken air-conditioning system on one of their minibuses. Having already raised half the amount, the Trust will use this generous donation to meet the final amount needed to replace the unit.

Without a functioning air-conditioning system, people with learning disabilities being transported to activities and events around Portsmouth would be subjected to nature’s whims. Given the cold weather closing in, a functioning unit will ensure that everyone in the minibus is able to stay warm and comfortable. It will also ensure that people are kept at a safe temperature if another heat wave sweeps through the UK next summer.

Terry Nye and John Burrell on behalf of the Mark degree greeted the Trust’s Portsmouth team this month to meet people supported by the Trust, as well as to see how the generous donation will make a difference.

Terry, on behalf of the Province said: ‘It is always a pleasure to help those less fortunate than ourselves, particularly at this time of the year.’

Lesley Brooks, Fundraising Co-ordinator for the Trust said: ‘We are extremely grateful for this very generous donation, and it was a pleasure to have Terry and John come along and present the cheque to some of the people supported in Portsmouth who will benefit from the new unit in the minibus they travel in’.

Lisa Lee, Regional Director of Care in Portsmouth for the Trust said: ‘On behalf of the people using the bus, I would like to say a massive thank you as this will make life so much more comfortable during the hot days of the year and warmer on the freezing days’.

Charitable donations from generous givers are important in enabling the charity to support people with learning disabilities.

Charitable donations from generous givers are important in enabling the charity to support over 270 people with learning disabilities along the south coast. The Trust supports people to live in their own homes in Portsmouth as well as running a thriving day opportunities service in the city.
