James discovered his passion for cooking during Covid.

James struggled during the various lockdowns and the uncertainty at this time. However, when he started to participate in cooking meals at home he realised how much he enjoyed it. Since then, he’s not looked back! He suggested a cooking rota at his house, where everyone cooks one night a week and tidies the kitchen together. He has also been encouraging everyone to recycle.

Having discovered his passion for cooking, James has now applied for a job at the local Spire Wesley’s café where he works a couple of days a week and covers shifts at short notice.

James is also a supportive housemate. He has encouraged a housemate to try for a work placement and is helping a new housemate settle in.

In 2023 he won the ‘We are always learning’ award at Minstead Trust’s Annual Showcase – watch his video to find out more about how James continues to progress his cooking career.

When asked how winning the award made him feel, James said:

‘I feel really good about it.’
