Spotlight Series: Naomi

Naomi is a lovely lady who is funny, chatty, and gets on with everyone she meets. Here, she talks about learning, teaching, friendships, and enjoyable activities.

How long have you been coming to Sixth Avenue Hub?
A long time. Ten years. 

What do you do here?
On a Monday, I go sensory shopping in the morning and then do sensory cooking. On a Tuesday, I go shopping and get a drink. Then once a month we go to nursery to teach Makaton to tiny tots. 

Do you enjoy using Makaton?
Yeah, I like Julie joining. Because Julie, my housemate, we live together. 

And what do you do on a Wednesday?
Pamper group and music. And Thursday is dancing and events. And Friday is Make and Sell. And every other week we go to the pub. 

What are you making in Make and Sell at the moment?
We’re ironing t-shirts and going to sell them. They’ve got words to stick on the t-shirts. The words are sayings that we use here, like ‘sunny day.’  

What’s your favourite session to do?
Make and Sell. I like copying the pictures of the animals. I like doing that. 

Are you learning any skills from it?
How to use the Cricut machine. And how to iron, my mum irons but I don’t! 

What do you like doing when you’re not here at Sixth Avenue Hub?
I like living with my friend Julie. I’ve been living there for a long time. I like drinking lattes. I like doing sensory cooking. We did a soup for the soup kitchen last week.  

Where have you been recently that you enjoyed?
Legoland! They sell mega bags of Lego. I went on the slow rides, I don’t like the fast rides. I’ve been on the one the one that goes round, and up, and down, it was like a helicopter. And the dragon one on the blue track, I’ve been on that. It was very good. You can have a picnic there. Next year I’d like to go to Marwell Zoo. I did the flashmob at the Guildhall in the summer but it was raining.  

What are you looking forward to?
We’ve got coffee morning on Friday for MacMillan. I’m in events, so will help to bake the cupcakes!
