New workshops are coming to Eastleigh and Southampton this summer for people with learning disabilities to learn new skills and meet friends.

The sessions are open to all and offer tasters on:

  • Dance
  • Drama
  • Arts and crafts

Run by local charity Minstead Trust, the workshops run throughout August and are only £5 per session.

Minstead Trust supports around 200 people with learning disabilities to develop skills that allow them to gain greater independence and lead fulfilled lives. This includes trying new hobbies, developing skills and having the confidence to widen their social networks.

Ophelia Matthias, Head of New Forest Day Opportunities at Minstead Trust, said: ‘These summer workshops provide a brilliant opportunity for people with learning disabilities to try some engaging activities during the summer months.

‘People have told us that the summer holidays can be a boring and lonely time, especially when most of their regular activities have finished and some of their friends are away. The summer workshops are designed to help bridge that gap in addition to providing people with the opportunity to try and learn something new.’

Eastleigh workshops run every Monday from 29 July to 2 September 2019, 1pm to 2.30pm (excluding 26 August) at Centenary Hall, 46 Chamberlayne Road, SO50 5JH.

The Southampton sessions run every Friday from 2 August to 6 September 2019, 10am to 11.30am at The Stage Door, Guildhall Square, SO14 7FW.
