The social enterprise, part of Minstead Trust, utilises the unique skills of people with learning disabilities to make award-winning jams, chutneys and marmalades that are loved by thousands of customers across the south.
But demand for Real Jam’s preserves has outgrown its current kitchen. Stockists are waiting, jars are flying off the shelves, and opportunities for more supported cooks to join the team are limited.
The Spread the Jam, Spread the Impact campaign, running until 30 September, aims to raise vital funds for new equipment. This will help Real Jam to expand production, meet demand, and create space for more people with learning disabilities to gain valuable training and employment opportunities.
Without the support of this fundraiser, Real Jam’s progress with be slowed and its mission to show that inclusive businesses can thrive will be under threat.
Real Jam currently supports more than 30 people with learning disabilities each week to make preserves in its kitchen set in the picturesque grounds of Minstead Lodge in the New Forest.
As well as welcoming donations of any size from individuals, businesses are also being invited to step up as sponsors of the campaign;
Seb Vigneron, Manager of Real Jam and Chutney Company, said:
‘Every jar we make proves that people with learning disabilities can thrive when given the chance. But right now, we’re at full capacity. With the community’s support, we can grow our kitchen, welcome new supported cooks and keep spreading the impact of this life-enhancing business.”
Supported Cook Iesha, said: ‘I enjoy doing the labels and meeting our customers to see our products on the shelves. I also enjoy working with our team.’
Supported Cook Jess, said: ‘I like doing jarring up, the onions and stuff and yeah, getting better skills, like chopping, like stirring and slicing.’
