Storm damage appeal raises thousands

An urgent fundraising appeal has raised £10,000 for Minstead Trust to help cover extensive costs from Storm Eunice damage.

Minstead Trust supports more than 220 people with learning disabilities and has its headquarters at Minstead Lodge near Lyndhurst.

During the recent storms several large trees came down at the Lodge, damaging buildings, knocking out power and internet and causing extensive damage. The Trust was forced to close its on-site day opportunities service for two days.

Facing mounting costs, the charity launched a flash fundraiser to ask its supporters for contributions and more than 200 people donated.

The money raised will help cover some of the clear up and repair costs plus loss of income from the day opportunities closure.

Adam Dodd, Minstead Trust Chief Executive, said; ‘Crisis and adversity often bring people together and the response we have had from our supporters over the last week has been evidence of this.

‘It’s been so great to see how people pulled together to face the many trials and the great solutions that the storm threw up. From the resilience of the people we support to the heroic efforts of our staff – everyone has responded admirably to this difficult situation.

‘The funds donated in this fundraiser are really important to us, ensuring the financial impact of this freak event will be cushioned and we can get on with our crucial support work.’

Minstead Trust supports people with learning disabilities across Hampshire and Portsmouth through supported living accommodation, day opportunities and community groups. The Trust also runs five social enterprises to provide supported work experience and training.
