Person with learning disabilities in Christmas fundraising effort

A festive fundraising idea devised by Phil, who has learning disabilities, is proving a hit with local people in the New Forest.

Phil came up with the idea to run a 50 square raffle, each one ready to be filled with donors’ names and priced at £10. Named ‘Phil’s Festive 50’, his idea is raising money for Minstead Trust, the charity that supports Phil and more than 300 other people along the south coast.

Funds raised will help people with learning disabilities to get the support they need to thrive.

Three lucky winners will win a beautiful, handcrafted product made by Phil and his friends at the Trust’s New Forest Day Opportunities.

Minstead Trust’s New Forest Day Opportunities are based at Minstead Lodge, providing opportunities to people with learning disabilities to learn new skills in craft workshops and improve their wellbeing.

Phil is supported in these workshops to build his skills in craft, but also in social skills, working with others and communication. These skills help people like Phil to lead more independent, happier lives.

Phil said: ‘Minstead Trust helps me live in my own home, and to learn new skills like woodwork. I am really happy here – everyone is so kind.’
