Role Description:

Each Friday, a group of 5 young college leavers (aged between 20-25years old), will meet and attend programme sessions at Eling Tide Mill in Totton.

The aim of the programme is to:

  • Build confidence and safety in the community as they leave college
  • Gain experience of accessing community resources and learning to access them without paid support

This is a trial programme so will continue to evolve depending on the interests etc of the people taking part.

The programme details are as follows:

  • 10am – 11:30am – classroom based, workshop style activity at Eling Tide Mill. Each month will explore a specific theme – eg. getting to know the local area / travel training etc
  • 11:30-12pm – (lunch) break
  • 12 to 3pm –interactive and community based afternoon session based on the morning’s learning. It may support local travel training and / or possible taster sessions in the community. The group will then return to Eling Tide Mill.

The programme will be led and developed by 2 x members of staff, but they are still looking for 2 or 3 volunteers to support them during either the morning or afternoon session (or both!), depending on your time and availability.

The role of the volunteer will be to offer help to staff and to be another person present if people need more individual encouragement. Reliability is essential, and the ability to commit regularly (if possible) is also desirable to help build a good working relationship with the group.
