Sir Paul Newton

‘During my first visit to Minstead, I was struck by the ethos: kindness, calm, purpose, dignity for all, and selfless service. I wanted to find a way to help. Lacking the practical skills to be a volunteer, I am proud to join the Trustees.’

Sir Paul Newton, KBE, CBE, joined the Royal Hampshire Regiment at 18, thinking he would stay for three years to experience the contrasting excitement of serving in Hong Kong and Northern Ireland. Thirty-eight years later, much to his surprise (and the amazement of many), he found himself on the Army Board commanding over 16,000 personnel and with the task of “leading and driving Army change.” Since then, he has been the founding Professor of Security Strategy at the University of Exeter and is co-Director of a strategy consultancy. He hopes to bring experience from the public and the private sectors to assist a truly wonderful charity.
