Minstead Trust’s summer fete is celebrating its best year ever after record numbers of visitors raised thousands of pounds for the learning disability charity.

Games, dog shows and prize draws drew more than 600 people to Minstead Lodge on Saturday 22 June, raising more than £7,500.

The charity supports around 200 people with learning disabilities to develop skills that allow them to gain greater independence and lead fulfilled lives.

The fete has been running for 20 years and this year its most popular stalls included the tombola, children’s games and plant sales. Live music from Romsey Ukulele Group and performances from people supported by Minstead Trust provided entertainment and a lively atmosphere.

A particular highlight was a break dancing performance from Philip and Simon, who are tenants in a supported living house owned by the Trust.

Also popular were the craft stalls where visitors could pick up some of the crafts made by the people that Minstead Trust supports in their workshops, including bug boxes, fairy doors, ceramics and textiles.

There was also a prize draw, which included £100 of John Lewis vouchers donated by Heppenstalls solicitors and an overnight stay at Macdonald Elmers Court Hotel in Lymington.

Madeleine Durie, Chief Executive of Minstead Trust, said: ‘This year’s fete was our best ever. It is all down to the dedication of our volunteers, staff, local businesses and the people we support, all of whom gave up their time for free to make it such a success – and of course to the many people who came to support us. It was wonderful to see so many people visiting Minstead Lodge to enjoy the great weather, food and entertainment.

‘The money we raised will help us to continue our work to help people with learning disabilities to develop skills that allow them to live more independent and fulfilled lives.’
