Rory is a valued member of the team at Furzey Gardens.

He goes to work at Furzey Tea Rooms every week and has 1-1 support at all times for health needs. Whilst the 1-1 support is for Rory’s safety it can naturally lead to him depending on that staff member.

In recent months Rory has built on the skills he originally developed working in the café at Hanger Farm and applied them to his role at Furzey, where he is starting to work more independently.

The team at Furzey have played a huge role in supporting Rory’s development. Rory can now use the tills and serve customers without encouragement.

In the past, Rory could become flustered when things got busy but he’s much better at managing this now, always remaining polite and positive.

Rory is a sociable young man and loves interacting with customers. Working at Furzey is an important part of Rory’s week, he takes his role seriously and is excited about the prospect of working there in a meet-and-greet capacity in the future.

In 2023 he won the ‘Finding joy in everyday life’ award at Minstead Trust’s Annual Showcase – watch his video to find out more about how Rory finds joy every day.

When asked how winning the award made him feel, Rory said:

‘It makes me famous.’
