At Minstead Trust, our ‘mini farm’ has lots of different types of animals, including geese, goats and donkeys, and our alpacas at Furzey Gardens.

Looking after the animals is an area that many of the people we support really enjoy and get a lot from. Working with and looking after the animals teaches skills such as:

  • how to keep the animals clean and well fed
  • knowing the importance of proper shelter for the animals
  • knowing which equipment is required to look after the animals.

It is well known that looking after animals is beneficial to our health and wellbeing, and on top of this it helps grow the confidence of people we support.

Our animal instructor Helen introduces you to the animals at Minstead Lodge.

How can you help our animal care service?

Sponsor one of our animal friends such as Freddie the alpaca, for just £20 for one year, or Alfie the donkey for £40 for one year. You can also give sponsorship as a gift.

You will receive a certificate of your sponsorship*, perhaps you might like to gift your sponsorship. Each of the animals has its own loveable character – choose which animal you would like to sponsor here.

*Certificates are electronic and the last date to get yours in time for Christmas is 22nd December. In the New Year, you will receive a posted certificate.
