The Step Up For Work programme has been running in the New Forest since 2018.

It has seen dozens of people attend its workshops on employment skills and over 20 people have undertaken work placements, with three going on to paid employment.

The workshops are run at Minstead Lodge, home of Minstead Trust, by the Step Up For Work programme lead and work placements take place at Minstead Trust’s social enterprises, as well as our partner organisations, including the RSPB.

Our social enterprises include Furzey Gardens, Hanger Farm Arts Centre and Minstead Lodge conference and events venue.

I work at Paulton’s Park in the restaurant, it’s going really brilliant. I do it Friday and Sunday and it is my first ever paid job.

Step Up For Work graduate

ITV Meridian visits Bob at his new job with Skanska UK Ltd

Bob is one of the graduates of the Step Up for Work programme in the New Forest.

As with all participants in our programme, Bob has worked very hard to learn work skills, undertake placements and work towards employment. This tailored approach to supporting individuals is paying off and helping them achieve their aim of living a more independent and fulfilled life. Bob has recently secured his first paid job and ITV Meridian went to see how he was getting on.
